Human Right to water and sanitation in developing countries: risks and opportunities for the Water Utilities sector
The sixth issue of our Sustainability Focus.
In July 2010, the United Nations adopted a resolution that explicitly recognises the human right to water and sanitation and acknowledges that clean drinking water and sanitation are essential to the realisation of all human rights . Despite the non-binding character of this resolution, stakeholders appreciated the symbolic value of the adoption, paving the way towards the universal access to water and sanitation. This sustainability focus aims at providing an insight into the exposure of companies active in the water utilities sector to new risks and opportunities in this framework and describes practices observed in the sector in this regard.
